Major eagle sighting areas Highland Co. VA
Golden Eagle "Virgil Caine" is outfitted with telemetry unit
You may see where Virgil Caine is right now by clicking on her image. On 3/13/08 this third year female Golden Eagle was caught on Tamarack Ridge and released from nearby Bear Mountain in Highland County. She's wearing a hood here which helped keep her calm while researchers from the Center for Conservation Biology (Wm. & Mary) put the telemetry unit on her. Late March/early April 2008 she migrated to Qubec and returned to Highland every fall since then. A second Golden Eagle, a third year male, was caught nearby by Virginia Game and Inland Fisheries officials and outfitted with a tracking unit February 2009. He too migrated to Canada and returned to this area for the winter. Photo: Patti Reum
